THE BOSTON GLOBE
Hailed by the Boston Globe as “balmy-voiced” and for her “uniformly excellent” performances, mezzo-soprano Katherine Beck recently sang her first Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia with Florentine Opera. She begins the 2023-2024 season performing the world premiere of Gregg Kallor's Frankenstein with Arizona Opera in the role of Elizabeth Lavenza, followed by Lola in Cavelleria Rusticana with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra under the baton of James Gaffigan. In early 2024, Beck returns to the Lyric Opera of Chicago where she was a member of the Ryan Opera Center to cover the title role in La Cenerentola. Last season, she saw more Rossini with Lyric in the production of Le comte Ory, and partnered with Craig Terry in recital for Florentine Opera's Spotlight Recital and also at her alma mater, the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. Other recent performances include her return to Arizona Opera for Dorabella in Così fan tutte, the Metropolitan Opera for its production of Akhnaten, and Isabella in Rossini’s rarely performed L’inganno felice with the Opera Festival of Chicago.
